Brick – Autumn Summers

I felt my body go limp. The only thing I heard was screaming. “What the fuck?” “I’m going to kill Ortiz!” “Fuck that son of a bitch!” I laid there, unable to move. My head fucking hurt. I couldn’t really do much. “Come on, shit. We need to get you some help.” “Yeah, how did it happen?” I wanted to say that I was pulling in as Ortiz pulled out and hit me, throwing me across the parking lot. I only remember my bike coming down after me, pinning my ass down. It fucking hurt. Slowly, I felt the weight get pulled off my body. I looked forward down at my body, and as I stared at my arms, I saw the damage. Mostly it was road rash. Fucking burned. But when I looked at my right arm, I saw a large gash.

That’s got to be the source of all of this blood. I saw Bishop and Steel running over to me, looking over me. “Shit, this is going to need a lot more than just a few band-aids and t-shirts. He’s losing consciousness!” I heard Steel—or maybe Bishop?—said. I could barely move, and my hearing was off. There was a ringing in my ears as I struggled to get up. “Where am I? What happened? What’s everyone doing and—” My vision wavered and, I started to feel my body go unconscious. This lasted God knows how long. I didn’t think one fall would cause this, but the 500 lbs bike wasn’t some small little toy. Shit fucking hurt. For a long time, I could hear a little bit. I recalled the faint sound of something … Was it sirens? Or was it just my mind playing some goddamn tricks on me? Whatever it was, I couldn’t move. I didn’t want to move, and that’s when I woke up. I was on … a bed? I looked around and noticed something on my arm. “Ahh, fuck! This is so bad! Help, please,” I cried out.

The pain felt like something was stabbing me, hitting goddamn bone. I wanted to cry. This shit was so bad. I could see something … Maybe it was a person? I think it was Shelly? I could barely hear the sound of her voice as she spoke. “I’ll take care of it!” She raced over to the side, and I could see the outline of her holding something. “Hey, April, it’s Shelly. Listen, I need your help, hun. It’s urgent. Thank you so much. I’m right off I95, on Ipco Road.” Then, I heard nothing for a moment. What was she doing? I could barely register what was going on. This whole fall and all hurt like a goddamn bitch, and I didn’t know what to do about it. “Yeah, unfortunately, we’re not in a position to bring him. Yes, just call me when you’re here,” she said.

The phone clicked off, and I heard something; it barely registered in my ear. “Brick … I have help coming. I’m sorry, but she may be a few minutes. We’ll just … hold out while you can,” she said. Someone was coming for me? I’m saved! I wondered who it would be. Could it be the paramedics? Or maybe it was a doctor? The call sounded like it was someone who wasn’t directly with the hospital, but who the fuck knows. I wanted to tell Shelly thanks. There’s a lot I wanted to say. I wanted to get Ortiz after the rat bastard hit me, throwing me halfway across the parking lot. I wanted to make him pay. But there wasn’t much I could do now except smile to myself, mentally thanking whoever the fuck was up there that someone, anyone, could save me. As I was about to say something more, my eyes fluttered shut. I was relieved, that’s for sure, but then, moments later, my body started to slowly fall unconscious. I didn’t know what to do other than to rest and hope my goddamn savior could help when it was time. Chapter 2: The Nurse I did not expect to get a call from Shelly of all people.

But she sounded urgent, so I needed to help her. After all, she was a partner of mine when we were young. The memories of our time together flooded through my mind. All those nights partying, having a good time, and how we worked together to help each other out. Shelly saved my ass plenty of times. Hell, she even saved me from getting raped at one point by some schmuck at the club. The bastard had me cornered, a knife at my throat, demanding I suck his cock. But no, Shelly saved me, and she helped me a lot. This was perfect. It felt so good to be there for her. I’ve always been someone who would help out someone who needed it. That’s why, when I saw the number flash on my phone, I knew I would be there for her. I drove over with my medical bag in hand. When I pulled up, that’s when I saw it. Blood in the parking lot.

I followed the trail inside with my gaze, and I knew damn well that if I didn’t get in there, someone was about to get fucked up. I rushed in and saw the unconscious man. He was large, bulky, and he looked familiar. It was the guy who hung around the clubs in South Beach on occasion. But what my eyes went to next was the t-shirts stained with blood, turning them a sinister pink and red. “Alright, let me in. I’m going to take care of this. Good thing I brought a gamut of supplies,” I said. He was out cold, not that I could blame him. I quickly disinfected the area and checked out the wound. That’s when his eyes fluttered open. “Y-you’re my s-savior?” “Yes, dear. You need to stay still, though. I’m going to disinfect this. It’s not going to be easy, though.

This may sting a lot,” I told him. I was a nurse, and I tried to be as careful as possible, but even I knew that we’d have to take this shit slow. “O-okay.” He went unconscious again. I quickly grabbed a dab of alcohol and put the cotton swab with it onto his arm. Suddenly, his eyes shot open, his hands struggling to hold back, a look of pure agony on his face. I felt for him; I really did. “Come on, dear. Just calm down. We’re almost there. I’m going to need to clean the area before we move on. You’ll need to stay still,” I said. He nodded slightly. I would give him pain medication to help numb it if I could, but that wasn’t happening. I started to clean up the area, and after a couple more screams, I finally finished.

“Alright, there we go. It’s time to work on the stitches. Shit, this is pretty deep,” I said. The lacerations were definitely not easy to fix up, but I managed to stop the bleeding. I grabbed the gauze, and after cleaning it once more, I stitched up the wound. As I did so, my eyes gazed over to the sides of his arms, which were big and bulky. The sinews of muscles definitely caught my eye. Fuck, he’s gorgeous. But I shook my head. No sense in getting distracted while on the job, you know. With each and every stitch, I could feel my eyes looking over, threatening to stare up at them once more, but I managed to get it together. It was a nice, clean set of stitches, and I bandaged them up to make them look a little less unseemly and to stop the bleeding. “Alright, we’re good. You did very well there,” I told him. Of course, he didn’t respond, but I wanted to imagine that he’d heard me.

I noticed Shelly looking over, her eyes worried. “Where’s the president?” I asked. “Oh, he’s taking care of business. They’re trying to handle the mess involving the guy who did this,” Shelly explained. “Okay. Well, I’m going to give you some instructions. I need you to make sure he gets lots of rest. He will be fine, but he’ll need to be kept out of bright light and given lots of Motrin. I’m going to be back to check on him tomorrow,” I directed her. “Thank you so much, April. You don’t know how happy I am to see you. You really saved us,” she said. I reached out, touching her shoulder. Thankfully, I cleaned my hands after taking care of Brick. “Remember what I said during our time together, Shell.

I’d always be there to help you, no matter what. What’s his name?
